FLIDAS has been developed and sold from 2013 to 2026 by the CEO of Data Bus Tools as a single developer. On the 11th September 2026 parts of a new European law the "Cyber Resilience Act" came into force which increased the regulations for software development significantly. For Data Bus Tools continuing seemed no more feasible. In preparation the source code of FLIDAS was offered to companies interested to exclusively continue the development. Some companies investigated and came to the conclusion that the possibility of continued business was too unclear mostly based on the low level of formal documentation. In a second step the source code was offered to other companies for internal use and development and four current customers have now licensed this. From Data Bus Tools point of view one of them would be able to continue the development of FLIDAS as a commercial off-the-shelf software. They could later change the scope of their license to allow them a commercial development if internal use leads to more familiarity of their developers with the source code.
Due to the new legal situation also the free version of FLIDAS was removed from the website. Note that there are no known security problems.
If you are interested to contract Data Bus Tools for consulting or development you can contact Data Bus Tools, but there will be no development of own software. Contracting must be in the form of contributions to your projects (which can of course also be your own internal source code of FLIDAS).
Data Bus Tools will stay around for a while to see what kind of business develops or if later changes to the law make software development for Data Bus Tools feasible again.
Thanks to all customers who have been using and supporting FLIDAS in the past 13 years. I especially enjoyed those who contributed with ideas and helped me get a better understanding of their needs in open discussions. Also, a big thanks to those procurement departments which were trying to keep regulations low.
